Basketball season has run head on into football season, which means I’m knee deep in quite a few beats this week: Ohio State football, Dayton basketball and other sports, Wright State basketball, Wittenberg football, basketball, volleyball.

It is a lot of fun, but I’m looking forward to next week in Puerto Rico when I can focus on two beats: the beach and UD basketball.

Our UD men’s basketball season preview comes out Thursday, a day before the season opener against Alabama A&M. Part of the package is a Q and A with Jordan Sibert. Here’s a sampling of that story:

Q: What did you learn from Devin Oliver’s leadership last season?

A: Me and him, we piggy-backed off each other a lot last year. He was louder than me. I had more winning experiences. We used each other to help lead. Now I’m just trying to take a page out of his book and be as vocal as I can and show people the right direction like he did.

I’ve definitely been making an effort to step outside my comfort zone. If you want to do something special, you’ve got to go outside your comfort zone. When you’re a junior and sophomore, you can kind of hide behind the seniors and be free. Now there’s no hiding. It’s all eyes on me. I’m ready to step up.

Q: Do you have NBA dreams?

A: Everybody does. Absolutely. I would love to play at the highest level of basketball possible. Right now, if you don’t win and your team isn’t viewed as winners, that dream doesn’t come true. The only thing I want to do is make sure we’re focused on winning. This is my last year. Every game counts. Every practice counts. It’s dwindling down.

Sibert’s brother Logan Brogden is an assistant coach at Tiffin University and posted this photo to Instagram on Saturday and wrote this:

AHHHHHH!!!! The season is here!!!!!!! Understand this, being able to play the game you love is a true blessing & something not to be taken for granted. Tonight starts my baby brothers last year in college basketball and regardless of how this season turns out for him I just want to first thank God for allowing him to make it this far. God and God only is the only reason he is where he is today. As his older brother I am asking for all those who love and care for me as well as him to lift him up in prayer as he starts his senior year. ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH GOD and we are only here to serve him. Thank you to all those who support us! At the end of the day I just want to see my brother happy & smiling. #TheMission #TeamSmooth #RollWithTheWinners #WeBeforeMe
