Last week, Atlantic 10 coaches and media members voted the Dayton Flyers the preseason favorite in the conference race. ESPN analyst Dick Vitale agrees.

Vitale named Dayton the team to beat in the A-10 on Wednesday on ESPN.com and wrote, “This is going to be a battle between Dayton, Rhode Island and Davidson. I expect great competition in this league.”

The Flyers play their first and only exhibition game at 2 p.m. Nov. 7 against Saginaw Valley State. They will also be in action this Sunday in a so-called secret scrimmage against Purdue.

According to a source, the game will take place at the University of Indianapolis. The NCAA lets Division I teams scrimmage, but the scrimmages are not listed on the schedule or open to the public or media. Coaches aren’t even supposed to talk about them. Dayton scrimmaged Illinois in Indianapolis last season.
