Students were chanting “Canada” for Dyshawn Pierre before the game. UD President Dr. Dan Curran watched at least part of the game from the front row of the student section right next to the Pilot and Flight Attendants (not sure if he was there when the players were mobbed by students after the game). Pierre, who said he had a terrible game on Senior Night, and fellow senior Bobby Wehrli, who did not play on Senior Night, left the court with big smiles anyway.
Those were a few of the memorable images from Saturday night when Dayton beat VCU 68-67 in overtime. Considering the intensity, the closeness of the game, the big shots, the thrilling finish and all that was on the line, it has to be one of the top 10 games in the history of UD Arena, if not a top-five game.
